5-Nautical-Mile light
Position and warning lights for safe navigation in offshore wind farms
The 5-Nautical-Mile Light serves as a position and warning light for shipping and is used on offshore wind turbines to support safe navigation in the vicinity of individual turbines and wind farms. It enables early visual detection of the position of wind turbines at sea and thus contributes significantly to maritime safety.
Thanks to its clear visual signal, the system helps ships navigate even in poor visibility and significantly improves safety in maritime areas.
Clear marking of wind farms
In offshore wind farms, the 5-Nautical-Mile lights are used specifically on the outer wind turbines. It enables early visual detection of the position of wind turbines at sea and thus contributes significantly to maritime safety.
The beam angle is designed so that the light is directed away from the wind farm.Lights with a larger beam angle and a separate flashing profile are used at the corner turbines, while the lights along the edges of the farm have a defined angle of 184°.
Together, these coordinated beam angles create a clearly recognizable outer boundary of the wind farm for maritime transport.
Intelligent signalling technology for maximum safety
The 5-nautical-mile light operates with synchronized flashing via a global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). This ensures that all lights in a wind farm flash synchronously—a critical factor for visual perception and navigation at sea.
An integrated brightness sensor automatically switches between day and night modes, while the integrated logbook records on/off time stamp, events and statistic.
Robust design for offshore use
The system has been specifically designed for maritime use and engineered for maximum durability. Sea water-resistant materials, UV- and ozone-resistant components, and a maintenance-free design ensure long-term, reliable operation under extreme environmental conditions.
An integrated overvoltage protection in accordance with DIN EN IEC 61643-11, protects the system components.
